Quick peek at the new Vancouver Convention Centre

I was just passing by and noticed that the new convention centre was open. I only had my point & shoot, but couldn't resist a few pics.

The front entrance I think?

The entrance was closed to the public tonight, but should be open tomorrow.

Looks like a weather balloon or communications thing ...

From the right angle and the right time ...

Light fixtures as sculpture?

Someone fellow photographer beat me to it, and was already using the convention centre for an engagement shoot!

Using a video light is a nice idea ... held by handy voice-activated-lightstand.

North shore with some wispy clouds catching the sunset.

Another view of the golf ball

More unknown-purpose light sculptures

A few late night workers in the tower.

The white ball lights up at night, with all kinds of projections ... kind of a planetarium laser light show experience i would imagine.

View from above ...

Some neighbouring buildings ...

There are a handful of behind-the-scenes videos on the YouTube channel:

It's really quite the stunning development.

Disturbing how the old Vancouver is being replaced very quickly with a "Shanghai" look. I haven't been there for several years and everytime I see photos of it I feel less and less like visiting there again (nothing against the city itself, just why bother when it is very generic looking now). It used to be like a cleaner San Francisco, now it just looks like a concrete future nightmare. It seems like the city still suffers from identity issues...
